The First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, has arrived safely in New York following two days of intensive and fruitful engagements with Sierra Leonean nationals and development partners in Washington, D.C.
Her Excellency was warmly received by Sierra Leone’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr. Michael Imran Kanu and team, as well as other members of the Sierra Leonean community in the United States.
This visit marks the First Lady’s first official engagement in New York since her election as President of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OFLAD), a continental body focused on advancing inclusive development across Africa through the leadership of First Ladies.
Her visit is particularly notable given her widely acclaimed advocacy on women’s empowerment and child protection, causes that have earned her both national and international recognition.
While in New York, H.E. Dr. Fatima Maada Bio will participate in the 3rd Global First Ladies Alliance Partners Academy, an international platform convened under the auspices of the Ford Foundation. She will also undertake a series of engagements within the United Nations system.
Stay tuned for further updates on this important visit.
